White Bass

White bass fishing near Boys Town can be a fun and fast-paced experience, especially during their spring spawning runs. While Boys Town itself might not have ideal white bass habitat, nearby rivers and reservoirs offer excellent opportunities. The Platte River, particularly below dams or riffles, is a great place to target these schooling fish. Spring is the peak season, when white bass migrate upstream to spawn. Small jigs, spinners, and crankbaits are all effective lures. Look for areas with current and structure, such as rocks or submerged timber. Keep an eye out for birds diving, as this often indicates a school of white bass feeding on baitfish. Remember to check the Nebraska Game and Parks regulations for size and creel limits. These fish are fun to catch but don't have a lot of meat on them so consider releasing them. Also, be aware of changing water levels and currents, especially after heavy rains.
