King Mackerel

King Mackerel, or "Kingfish" as they're often called, are a popular target off Boynton Beach. These toothy speedsters provide thrilling runs and are known for their aggressive strikes. The best time to target King Mackerel is during the spring and fall migrations. Focus your efforts around reefs, wrecks, and artificial structures in 60-120 feet of water. Live bait is king (pun intended!), so try slow trolling live blue runners, Spanish mackerel, or threadfin herring. Wire leaders are essential due to their sharp teeth. A useful local tip: the Loran Tower Ledge, located a few miles offshore, is a known hotspot. Also, be aware that King Mackerel are often found near schools of bonito, so if you find the bonitos, the Kings are likely nearby. Keep an eye on your electronics for bait schools and temperature breaks, as these are key indicators of King Mackerel activity.
