Largemouth Bass

If you're heading to Mansfield, Arkansas, in search of Largemouth Bass, you're in for a treat. This area boasts several smaller lakes and ponds, along with the Poteau River, all holding decent populations of bass. The key is targeting the right habitat. Spring and fall are prime times, as the bass are most active during the spawn and pre-winter feeding frenzies. Focus on areas with submerged timber, weed beds, and rocky points. The Poteau River can be especially productive after a period of rain, as the increased flow brings in nutrients and stirs up the baitfish. For bank access, try the public areas around Lake Hinkle, but be aware that boat access is limited on some of the smaller bodies of water. Local tip: many of the private ponds in the area hold surprisingly large bass, so it’s always worth asking permission from landowners – you might just stumble upon your new honey hole.
