Targeting Largemouth Bass around Ann Arbor offers a diverse range of options, from the Huron River to numerous smaller lakes and ponds. The Huron, with its slower currents and abundant vegetation, provides excellent habitat. Ford Lake and Belleville Lake are also popular choices, though they can get busy with recreational boaters. Spring and fall are generally the most productive times. During the spawn, focus on shallow bays and protected areas with visible nests. In the summer, look for bass around docks, weed lines, and submerged structure. Flipping jigs and throwing topwater lures early and late in the day can be very effective. A local tip: the Huron River can be surprisingly clear at times, so using fluorocarbon leaders and downsizing your baits can increase your success. Also, check the river flow rates before you go, as high water can make fishing difficult.
