Looking for Largemouth Bass near Big Rapids, Michigan? This area offers a mix of river systems and smaller lakes that can provide some fantastic bass fishing. The Muskegon River, with its backwaters and connected lakes, is a prime location. Spring is an excellent time, with pre-spawn bass staging near shallow spawning areas. Spinnerbaits, crankbaits, and jigs worked around structure are productive. As the water warms, focus on weed lines and submerged cover with Texas-rigged plastics or Carolina rigs. Many of the smaller lakes in the area offer good bass fishing as well, often with less fishing pressure than the river. Public access is readily available at various boat launches and parks along the Muskegon River. Be aware of changing water levels on the river, especially after heavy rains.
