Largemouth Bass

For Largemouth Bass anglers, Brighton, Michigan and the surrounding area offer a wealth of options. The numerous lakes within the Huron River Watershed, such as Brighton Lake, Ore Lake, and Woodland Lake, are prime locations. These lakes are characterized by their diverse structure, including weed beds, lily pads, docks, and submerged timber, all of which provide excellent habitat for largemouth. The pre-spawn (late spring) and fall are arguably the best times to target largemouth here, as they're actively feeding in preparation for spawning or winter. Try fishing weedless lures like frogs or Texas-rigged worms in the thick cover. Public access is generally good, with boat launches available on most of the larger lakes. Be aware that some lakes have restrictions on motor size, so check local regulations before heading out. The largemouth bass in these waters are known for their aggressive strikes and respectable size, with good numbers of fish in the 2-4 pound range.
