Largemouth Bass

Cadillac, Michigan, is a fantastic base for pursuing Largemouth Bass, thanks to its proximity to both Lake Cadillac and Lake Mitchell. These connected lakes offer diverse bass habitat, from shallow weedy bays to deeper, clearer waters. The best time to target bass here is during the pre-spawn (late spring) and post-spawn (early summer) periods when they are actively feeding in the shallows. Fall can also be productive as bass fatten up for winter. Look for lily pads, docks, and submerged vegetation, which provide cover for bass. A local tip is to check out the Clam Lake Canal connecting the two lakes; it often holds bass seeking refuge from boat traffic or changing weather. The bass in these lakes tend to be healthy and aggressive, responding well to a variety of lures, including crankbaits, spinnerbaits, and soft plastics. Don't be afraid to experiment with different presentations to find what the bass are keying on.
