Muskegon Heights offers some surprisingly good largemouth bass fishing, especially if you know where to look beyond the obvious. While the main river can be productive, exploring the smaller, quieter backwaters and connected lakes like Mona Lake and Muskegon Lake can yield bigger fish. Spring (pre-spawn) and fall are prime times, as bass are actively feeding. For a local tip, try targeting the areas around the Causeway on Muskegon Lake with weedless lures. Be aware that boat traffic can be heavy on weekends, so consider fishing during the week or early mornings. The largemouth in this area tend to be healthy and aggressive, often hitting topwater lures with gusto.
