Largemouth Bass

Negaunee, in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, offers a unique largemouth bass fishing experience centered around its many inland lakes. These lakes, often surrounded by forests and rocky outcroppings, provide a scenic backdrop for pursuing largemouth. The best time to target bass here is during the summer months, particularly June through August. As the water warms, bass become more active and move into shallower areas to feed and spawn. Look for them around weed beds, docks, and submerged timber. Topwater lures, such as frogs and buzzbaits, can be highly effective in the early morning and evening hours. During the day, try using soft plastics or crankbaits to target bass holding in deeper water. Many of the lakes in the Negaunee area have public access points and boat launches, but some are smaller and may be better suited for kayaks or canoes. The bass in these lakes are known for their aggressive strikes and willingness to hit a variety of lures.
