Northern Pike

If you're after Northern Pike in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, Negaunee is a great starting point. The area's numerous inland lakes, like Lake Angeline and the Dead River Storage Basin, offer excellent pike habitat. These fish thrive in the weedy bays and shallow, rocky areas of these lakes. Spring, after the ice melts, is a prime time to target pike as they move into shallow water to spawn. Large spinnerbaits, spoons, and jerkbaits are effective for attracting these aggressive predators. Fall is another excellent time, as pike feed heavily to prepare for winter. Focus on deeper weed lines and areas near drop-offs. Using large live bait, such as suckers or shiners, can also be very productive. Be sure to use a steel leader to prevent bite-offs. Access to these lakes is generally good, with several public boat launches available. Pike in this region are known for their fighting ability, so be prepared for an exciting battle.
