Largemouth Bass

Largemouth bass fishing near St. Clair Shores centers on the weedy areas and canals that connect to Lake St. Clair. While Lake St. Clair is known for smallmouth, the canals and backwaters provide ideal habitat for largemouth. Summer is prime time, as the water warms and the vegetation thickens. Target areas with lily pads, milfoil, and other aquatic plants. Flipping and pitching jigs or Texas-rigged worms into heavy cover is a productive technique. A local tip: the canals around Harrison Township and the Clinton River spillway can be particularly productive. Be mindful of boat traffic in these areas. Also, consider using topwater lures early and late in the day when largemouths are actively feeding near the surface. The largemouth population in these areas is generally healthy, offering a good mix of size and numbers.
