Northern Pike

For Northern Pike enthusiasts, St. Clair Shores is a prime location, offering access to the expansive Lake St. Clair. Spring and early summer are particularly productive as pike move into the shallows to spawn and ambush prey. Focus on weedy bays and areas with emergent vegetation. As the water warms, pike tend to move deeper, so trolling or casting larger lures along weed lines and drop-offs becomes more effective. Fall is another excellent time, as pike aggressively feed to prepare for winter. Consider launching from Metro Beach Metropark for easy access to a variety of pike habitats. A local tip: Pay close attention to wind direction, as pike often congregate on the windward side of the lake where baitfish are concentrated. Also, be prepared with wire leaders, as pike have sharp teeth and can easily bite through monofilament or fluorocarbon.
