Largemouth Bass

Ypsilanti offers some surprisingly good largemouth bass fishing, largely thanks to its proximity to the Huron River and several connected lakes and ponds. The Huron, in particular, is a winding river with plenty of structure – fallen trees, weed beds, and rocky outcroppings – that bass love to call home. Spring and fall are prime times to target these fish as they move into shallower waters to spawn or fatten up for winter. Summer can also be productive, especially during early morning or late evening hours. For shore anglers, Riverside Park provides excellent access, while Ford Lake offers boat ramps for those looking to cover more water. A local tip: Pay close attention to water clarity. After heavy rains, the Huron can get muddy, so opt for brighter, louder lures like spinnerbaits or crankbaits. The bass in this area tend to be opportunistic feeders, so don't be afraid to experiment with different presentations.
