Largemouth Bass

Central Nebraska's Cozad offers some solid largemouth bass fishing, especially if you know where to look. While not a trophy bass destination, the area's smaller lakes, ponds, and the slower stretches of the Platte River can hold some decent fish. Spring and fall are generally the best times to target bass, as they are more active during these periods. Look for structure like submerged timber, weed beds, and rocky points. Local tip: The inlet and outlet areas of irrigation canals connected to the Platte can be surprisingly productive, especially after a rain. Bass here tend to be opportunistic feeders, so a variety of lures can work, including crankbaits, spinnerbaits, and plastic worms. Remember to check local regulations regarding size and bag limits before you head out. Public access is available at some areas along the Platte River, but be mindful of private property.
