Largemouth Bass

Malcolm, Nebraska, while a smaller community, offers access to some excellent largemouth bass fishing opportunities in the surrounding lakes and reservoirs. These relatively fertile waters can produce some surprisingly chunky bass. The best time to target largemouth around Malcolm is during the spring spawning season and again in the fall when they're actively feeding before winter. Look for weedy areas, submerged timber, and points extending into the lake. A local tip is to check out Branched Oak Lake, a short drive from Malcolm. It has several boat ramps and plenty of shoreline access. Largemouth in this area tend to be ambush predators, so try working crankbaits, spinnerbaits, or soft plastics around cover. The bass population in these smaller Nebraska lakes are often robust, but can be sensitive to fishing pressure, so practice catch and release to help maintain a healthy fishery.
