Spotted Bass

While largemouth get most of the attention, spotted bass are present in some Nebraska waters, and while Malcolm isn't a hotspot, nearby lakes and reservoirs might hold a few. Spotted bass are not as common as largemouth in Nebraska, so targeting them specifically can be challenging. The best approach is to fish for them as you would for largemouth in the spring and fall. Look for rocky areas, points, and submerged timber. A local tip is to focus on areas with clearer water, as spotted bass tend to prefer these conditions. A small crankbait or a Texas-rigged worm can be effective. They are often found in similar areas as largemouth, so be prepared to catch both. Given their limited numbers, practicing catch and release is crucial to help maintain any existing population. Don't expect huge numbers, but the chance of landing one is always there when targeting bass in the area.
