Largemouth Bass

North Bend, Nebraska, while not necessarily a bass fishing mecca, offers some surprisingly good largemouth bass opportunities in its smaller lakes and ponds. Private ponds, with permission, can be very productive. Public options include some of the smaller watershed lakes in the surrounding Dodge County, though these can be heavily vegetated in summer. Early spring (pre-spawn) and late fall are prime times for larger bass. During the summer, focus on early morning and late evening fishing. A local tip: many of the smaller ponds benefit from using weedless lures like Texas-rigged worms or frogs due to the heavy vegetation. The largemouth population in this area tends to be relatively pressured, so finesse techniques and presentations can often outperform power fishing. Pay attention to water clarity; in clearer water, downsize your line and lures.
