Largemouth Bass

Mount Ephraim, NJ, offers several freshwater opportunities for largemouth bass anglers. While there aren't massive lakes in the immediate vicinity, the smaller ponds and reservoirs scattered throughout the area can hold some surprisingly good fish. Newton Creek, which winds through the area, also provides some bank fishing opportunities. Spring (April-May) is prime time, as the bass move shallow to spawn. Fall (September-October) can also be excellent as they fatten up for winter. A practical tip is to check out local parks, many of which have small ponds stocked with bass. Another tip: Don't overlook smaller, less obvious bodies of water. Sometimes, the most overlooked ponds hold the biggest surprises. The largemouth in this region can be somewhat pressured, so try using finesse techniques and natural-looking baits. Be sure to consult local regulations regarding size and creel limits.
