If you're chasing smallmouth bass in the Mount Ephraim area of New Jersey, you'll want to focus your attention on the nearby Delaware River. While not directly in town, the Delaware offers the best smallmouth fishing within a reasonable drive. The river's rocky structure and current breaks provide ideal habitat. Fall is prime time, as the bass aggressively feed before winter. Spring can also be productive, especially during the pre-spawn period. Access can be tricky; look for public access points north or south of Mount Ephraim along Route 291, and be prepared for some wading. Always check water levels before heading out, as the Delaware can fluctuate rapidly. Local tip: Pay close attention to current seams and areas where tributaries enter the river; these are often smallmouth hotspots. The Delaware River smallmouth tend to be scrappy fighters, known for their powerful runs.
