Northern Pike

While Bensenville, Illinois, isn't exactly known as a pike hotspot, you can still find these aggressive predators in some of the local waterways. Your best bet is to target the deeper holes and backwaters of the larger rivers and creeks in the area. Spring, just after the ice melts, and fall, as the water cools down, are traditionally the best times to target pike. Look for areas with plenty of cover, such as submerged logs, weed beds, and overhanging trees. Pike are ambush predators, so they'll often be lurking in these areas, waiting for unsuspecting prey. A steel leader is essential when pike fishing, as their sharp teeth can easily slice through monofilament or fluorocarbon line. Don't be afraid to use large lures, such as spoons, spinners, and crankbaits, to attract their attention. Public access to some of the prime pike habitat can be limited, so be prepared to do some exploring to find the best spots. Remember to practice catch and release to help maintain the pike population in these waters.
