Northern Pike

Looking to tangle with some Northern Pike near Lake Barrington, Illinois? This area, particularly the Fox River and connected lakes, offers surprisingly good pike fishing. Spring, just after ice-out, is prime time as the pike move into shallower weedy areas to spawn. Fall can also be productive as they aggressively feed before winter. Try targeting areas with submerged vegetation, creek mouths, and current breaks. A key to success here is using large, flashy lures or live bait like sucker minnows. Many anglers have luck trolling or casting along the weed lines. Be aware that the Fox River can experience fluctuating water levels, so check conditions before heading out.
