Northern Pike

If you're after Northern Pike near New Lenox, you'll find some opportunities in the local waterways, though they may not be as abundant as in more northern regions. The DuPage River and some of the larger lakes in the surrounding preserves can hold pike. Spring, particularly after ice-out, is an excellent time to target these predators as they move into shallower water to spawn. Fall is another productive period as they actively feed before winter. Focus on areas with weed beds, submerged timber, and creek mouths. Large spinnerbaits, spoons, and crankbaits are effective lure choices. Consider using a wire leader to prevent bite-offs. A good public access point is the McKinley Woods – Frederick's Grove, which offers shoreline fishing along the river. Pike in this area may not reach trophy sizes, but catching one can still provide a thrilling experience. Keep in mind that pike fishing in this area requires patience and persistence.
