Northern Pike

Targeting Northern Pike near Palatine, Illinois, requires a bit of exploration, but it can be done. While Palatine itself doesn't have a dedicated pike fishery, nearby lakes and forest preserve waters hold potential. Busse Woods Lake, again, is a decent option, though pike numbers are not exceptionally high. However, the Fox Chain O'Lakes, a short drive away, offers a much better shot at connecting with pike. A steel leader is essential to prevent bite-offs. When fishing Busse Woods, remember that only electric motors are allowed. The pike in these areas can be ambush predators, so focus on areas with heavy vegetation or downed timber. Pike in the Fox Chain are often associated with the weed beds along the shorelines. Be prepared for a good fight – pike are known for their aggressive strikes and powerful runs.
