Northern Pike

If you're after Northern Pike near Adair, Iowa, your best bet is targeting them in the larger lakes and reservoirs, such as Lake Panorama. These toothy predators thrive in weedy areas and ambush points. Spring, shortly after ice-out, is an excellent time as pike move into shallow bays to spawn. Fall is another productive period as they aggressively feed before winter. Large spoons, spinnerbaits, and crankbaits are effective lure choices, as are dead baits fished under a bobber. Look for areas with thick vegetation, such as lily pads or submerged weeds. Be sure to use a steel leader to prevent bite-offs.
