While Alvord itself may not be teeming with pike, it's close to several areas where you can find them. Early spring, just after ice-out, and late fall, as the water cools, are generally the most productive times for pike fishing. Look for weedy bays and shallow areas where pike ambush their prey. One local tip is to focus on lakes with known populations of panfish, as pike often congregate in these areas to feed. Also, be prepared for toothy critters – use a wire leader to prevent bite-offs.
