Northern Pike

For Northern Pike enthusiasts, Iron Mountain, Michigan, presents a wealth of opportunities. The vast network of lakes and rivers in Dickinson County is home to some impressive pike. The Menominee River, with its slower-moving sections and backwaters, is a great place to start. Also, don't overlook Lake Antoine, a local favorite. Spring and early summer, after the spawn, is a fantastic time to target these predators as they are actively feeding. Fall, as the water cools, is another excellent period for larger fish. A key to success here is understanding the structure. Pike love to ambush prey near weed beds, fallen timber, and rocky points. A local hotspot is the area near the Piers Gorge, where the river narrows and creates turbulent water, holding plenty of baitfish. Be prepared for some serious battles, as the pike in this area are known for their aggressive strikes and powerful runs. Use heavy tackle and steel leaders to avoid bite-offs.
