Northern Pike

If you're after Northern Pike in the Marquette area, you're in for a treat. The nearshore waters of Lake Superior, along with the Carp and Chocolay Rivers, offer excellent pike habitat. Focus your efforts where these rivers meet the lake, especially during the spring spawning season when pike move into shallower, warmer water. Later in the year, as water temperatures rise, look for pike holding near weed beds and submerged structure. Fall can also be productive as pike actively feed to prepare for winter. Remember that Lake Superior can be unpredictable, so check marine forecasts before heading out. For shore access, try the mouth of the Carp River; for boaters, the Marquette Lower Harbor offers a convenient launch. Local tip: Pike in Lake Superior can be opportunistic feeders, but they often prefer larger, natural-looking presentations. Adjust your depth and retrieve speed based on water temperature and current.
