Northern Pike

Looking to tangle with some toothy critters? Mecosta, Michigan offers some excellent Northern Pike fishing, particularly in its chain of lakes like Chippewa, Mecosta, and Blue Lake. These waters are known for their weedy shallows and abundant structure, perfect ambush points for pike. Spring is prime time, just after ice-out when pike move into shallow bays to spawn. Fall is another excellent period as they aggressively feed before winter. For bank access, try the public access sites on Chippewa Lake. If you're boating, be aware that some of the smaller lakes can be tricky to navigate due to shallow areas and submerged vegetation – a good depth finder is essential. Mecosta County pike aren't giants, but you'll find plenty in the 2-5 pound range, with the chance of hooking into something larger. Focus on using large spinners, spoons, or even dead bait rigs near weed edges and drop-offs.
