Northern Pike

Pinconning's proximity to Saginaw Bay and its network of rivers and lakes makes it a solid location for targeting northern pike. While the bay itself can hold pike, focusing on the Pinconning River and Quanicassee River will yield better results. These rivers offer the weedy, shallow habitat that pike prefer. Spring and fall are the peak seasons, as pike become more active in cooler water temperatures. Look for them near weed beds, submerged timber, and creek mouths. A local tip: large spinnerbaits and spoons are classic pike lures that work well in these waters. Don't be afraid to use brightly colored lures, especially in murky water. Public access to the rivers is available at several points, including boat launches and roadside pull-offs. Be mindful of boat traffic, especially on weekends. The pike in this area are known for their aggressive strikes, so hold on tight!
