Rainbow trout fishing near Marcellus offers a few options for anglers willing to explore. The tributaries of Skaneateles Lake, while often small, can provide opportunities to catch stocked rainbow trout, especially during and after the spring stocking season. Additionally, some of the larger creeks in the area may hold holdover fish from previous stockings. Target areas with riffles, runs, and pools, and use techniques such as drift fishing with worms or egg sacs, or casting small spinners or spoons. Fly fishing with nymphs or streamers can also be effective. Check the NYSDEC stocking reports to find out which streams have been recently stocked. Remember to practice responsible angling and respect private property. The water can be very cold even in the spring, so bring appropriate clothing and be prepared for changing weather conditions. Some anglers have luck fishing the deeper sections of the lake itself from a boat.
