Rainbow Trout

Suamico isn't necessarily a hotspot for Rainbow Trout, but some opportunities exist in the tributaries that flow into Green Bay, particularly the Suamico River. Stocking programs in the past have introduced rainbows to these waters, and while they don't always sustain large populations, you might encounter them, especially shortly after stocking. The best time to target Rainbow Trout in these waters is typically in the spring or fall. Stocking usually occurs during these periods. Check with the Wisconsin DNR for stocking reports to find out when and where rainbows have been released. Small spinners, spoons, and live bait like worms or waxworms can be effective. Fly fishing with nymphs or small streamers can also work. Access to the river is generally good, with several public access points available. Be mindful of water levels and clarity, as these can fluctuate. A local tip is to focus on areas with faster currents and riffles, as rainbows prefer oxygenated water.
