Smallmouth Bass

Shaver Lake, nestled in the Sierra Nevada, isn't the first place that comes to mind for Smallmouth Bass, but it offers a unique and rewarding fishery. The clear, cold water creates ideal conditions for these hard-fighting bass. Summer and early fall are prime times, as Smallmouths are actively feeding. Focus on rocky points, submerged humps, and steep drop-offs. Shaver Lake Smallmouths are particularly fond of crawfish imitations. Crankbaits, jigs, and Carolina-rigged plastics all work well. A local tip: the north shore of the lake tends to hold more Smallmouths than the south shore. Also, be sure to check the lake level before you go, as access to some areas can be affected by low water. These Smallies are scrappy and plentiful!
