Smallmouth Bass
While Riverside, Wyoming, is better known for its trout fishing, some smallmouth bass opportunities exist in the area's warmer waters. Focus on the slower-moving sections of the North Platte River and its tributaries, particularly where there's rocky structure or submerged cover. Seminoe Reservoir, while primarily a walleye and trout fishery, can also hold some smallmouth, particularly along the dam face and rocky shorelines. Summer is the prime time for smallmouth, as the water warms and they become more active. Topwater lures, crankbaits, and jigs are all effective. Public access to the North Platte is available in several locations, but be mindful of private property. Smallmouth in this area tend to be opportunistic feeders, so experiment with different presentations until you find what they're keying on. Don't be afraid to fish during the heat of the day, as smallmouth often seek shade near structure.
