Spotted Bass

While Largemouth Bass tend to be the star in Bloomingdale, Georgia, the area also holds populations of Spotted Bass, particularly in the Savannah River system. Look for them in areas with rocky structure, current, and deeper water than where you'd typically find largemouth. The shoals and deeper pools of the Savannah River provide ideal habitat. Spotted bass are active throughout the year, but the cooler months, from late fall through early spring, can be especially productive. These fish often school up, so if you catch one, there's a good chance there are more nearby. Smaller crankbaits, jerkbaits, and finesse worms are effective lures for spotted bass. A local tip: Focus on areas where the river narrows or where there are significant changes in depth. These spots often concentrate baitfish and attract spotted bass. Remember to check water levels before heading out, as the Savannah River is subject to fluctuations. Some of the smaller creeks feeding into the Savannah River can also hold spotted bass, offering a more secluded fishing experience.
