Spotted Bass

Columbus, Georgia, is an excellent location to target spotted bass, particularly in the Chattahoochee River and its impoundments like Lake Harding and Lake Oliver. These feisty fish thrive in the rocky, flowing waters that characterize much of the area. Spotted bass fishing is often best during the cooler months, from late fall through early spring (October-April), when they are more active and concentrated. Look for them around rocky points, bluffs, and areas with current. A local tactic: try fishing a shaky head jig or a small swimbait along the bottom. For river access, the Bibb City area offers several boat ramps. Keep in mind that spotted bass are often found in the same areas as largemouth, so be prepared to catch both. The spotted bass in the Columbus area are known for their hard fighting ability relative to their size, making them a fun and challenging target.
