Spotted Bass

East Ellijay is situated in prime Spotted Bass territory, with the Coosawattee River and Carters Lake being the go-to destinations. Spotted Bass are aggressive predators and thrive in the clear, rocky waters of North Georgia. Spring and fall are typically the best times to target them, as they move shallow to feed and spawn. Look for them around rocky points, submerged timber, and bluff walls. A local tactic is to use a Carolina rig with a plastic lizard or worm, dragging it slowly along the bottom. Another effective method is to throw crankbaits and spinnerbaits around structure. Spotted Bass in this region are known for their hard fighting ability, often exceeding expectations for their size. Public access to Carters Lake is readily available through several boat ramps, but be mindful of fluctuating water levels, especially during periods of heavy rain.
