Spotted Bass

While largemouth get most of the attention, spotted bass also inhabit the waters around Hagan, Georgia. Creeks and rivers like the Canoochee and some of its smaller tributaries provide suitable habitat. Spotted bass tend to prefer slightly clearer, faster-flowing water than largemouth, so target areas with rocky bottoms and current. They're often found holding near structure like fallen trees and rock piles. Spring and fall are generally the best times to fish for spotted bass, but they can be caught year-round. Smaller crankbaits, spinnerbaits, and jigs are effective lures. A Carolina rig with a plastic worm or lizard can also be productive. When fishing the Canoochee, be aware of the varying water levels, especially after heavy rains. Access can be tricky in some areas, so be prepared for some walking. The spotted bass in this region are typically smaller than largemouth, but they are known for their aggressive strikes and acrobatic fights.
