Spotted Bass

While largemouth bass get most of the attention, Midway, Georgia, also holds populations of spotted bass in its freshwater systems. The coastal rivers and creeks that feed into the Atlantic offer a unique habitat for these fish. Look for them in areas with rocky bottoms, current breaks, and submerged timber. While they can be caught year-round, the cooler months, from late fall through early spring, are often the most productive. Smaller crankbaits, spinnerbaits, and jigs are effective lures. A local tip is to focus on areas where creeks enter the main river channel; these spots often concentrate spotted bass. Also, be aware that spotted bass in this region tend to be smaller than largemouth, but they are aggressive fighters. Consider using lighter tackle for a more enjoyable experience.
