Spotted Bass

If you're chasing Spotted Bass in the Georgia mountains, Sky Valley offers a unique opportunity. While not a large fishery, the smaller lakes and streams surrounding the area, particularly those feeding into the Tallulah River system, hold some surprisingly feisty spots. Spring and fall are prime times; the bass move shallower to spawn in the spring, and then again in the fall as water temperatures cool. Focus on areas with rocky structure, submerged timber, and points where feeder creeks enter the main bodies of water. A local tip: Smaller swimbaits and crankbaits that mimic the native forage fish often outperform larger lures. Access to some of these areas can be challenging, often requiring hiking on steep terrain, so be prepared for some physical exertion. The Spotted Bass here tend to be aggressive, but also somewhat wary due to the clear mountain water, so lighter line and longer casts are advantageous.
