Walleye fishing near Hi-Nella, New Jersey, requires a bit of a drive, as they aren't commonly found in the immediate vicinity. Your best bet would be to head north towards the Delaware River. While not a renowned walleye fishery, the Delaware does hold a population of these fish. Focus your efforts around deeper holes and current breaks, especially near structures like bridges or submerged rock piles. Spring and fall are generally the best times to target walleye, as they become more active in cooler water temperatures. Jigs tipped with nightcrawlers or minnows are effective presentations. Trolling crankbaits can also be productive, especially in the deeper channels. Be aware of the strong currents and boat traffic on the Delaware River. A sturdy boat and reliable electronics are essential. Check the New Jersey and Pennsylvania fishing regulations, as the Delaware River forms the border between the two states, and regulations can differ. Walleye in this area tend to be on the smaller side, but persistence can pay off.
