Walleye in the New Providence area? While not a traditional walleye destination, some of the larger reservoirs within a reasonable driving distance may hold a limited population of walleye. Round Valley Reservoir, although a bit of a drive, is known for its walleye fishery. The cooler months, particularly late fall and early spring, are your best bet for targeting walleye, as they tend to be more active in colder water. Fishing at night or during low-light conditions is often more productive. A practical tip: focus on areas with rocky bottoms, drop-offs, and submerged structure. Trolling crankbaits or using jigs tipped with live bait can be effective techniques. Before heading out, be sure to check the specific regulations for the reservoir you plan to fish, as there may be restrictions on boat types, motor sizes, and fishing methods. Also, be aware that walleye fishing in these reservoirs can be challenging, so persistence is key.
