Walleye

While Meeteetse isn't necessarily known as a walleye hotspot, anglers can find them in the larger reservoirs and rivers within a reasonable drive. Boysen Reservoir, about an hour and a half away, is your best bet. It offers a decent walleye population. Late spring (May-June) and early fall (September-October) are prime times, as the water temperatures are more favorable and the walleye are actively feeding. Focus on areas near the dam, submerged structure, and points. Jigging with minnows or using crankbaits are popular techniques. Be aware that Boysen can experience fluctuating water levels, so check conditions before you go. Also, Wyoming fishing regulations apply, so make sure you have a valid license and are aware of any size or creel limits. The walleye here can be surprisingly good-sized, so be prepared for a fight!
