White Bass

Looking for some fast-paced action near Hot Springs? White bass fishing can be explosive, especially during their spring spawning runs. Lake Ouachita, Lake Hamilton, and Lake Catherine all hold healthy populations of white bass. The best time to target them is in the early spring, when they migrate upstream to spawn. Look for them in the upper reaches of the lakes, near creek mouths and river inlets. Small crankbaits, spinners, and jigs are all effective lures. A helpful tip: pay attention to bird activity; diving birds often indicate schools of white bass feeding on shad. Also, be aware that white bass are schooling fish, so when you find one, you're likely to find more. Once the spawn is over, they'll return to the main lake, where you can find them schooling near points and humps.
