White Bass

While not as widely known as some other Arkansas fisheries, Lake Jack Lee near Menifee can offer some exciting White Bass action, especially during their spring spawning runs. These fish migrate upstream to spawn, and targeting them in the lake's feeder creeks can be incredibly rewarding. Spring is the prime time, typically March through May, when the water temperature starts to rise. A local's secret is to focus on the areas where creeks enter the lake, particularly after a rainfall. Small jigs, spinners, and crankbaits are effective lures. White bass are aggressive schooling fish, so when you find one, you're likely to find more. Keep an eye out for surface activity, as they will often chase shad near the surface. Remember that Lake Jack Lee is relatively small, so the white bass population may fluctuate from year to year, but when they're running, it's a blast.
