This area offers a unique blend of riverine and reservoir environments perfect for white bass. Spring is prime time, as the whites migrate upstream to spawn, congregating in the clearer, shallower waters above and below the weirs and dams. Fall is also productive as the fish feed heavily before winter. Focus on areas with current breaks, such as points, submerged timber, and bridge pilings. For bank access, try the areas around the Highway 71 bridge or the public access points along the Poteau River. A local tip: White bass in this system can be particularly fond of small, flashy crankbaits and white or chartreuse curly tail grubs fished on light tackle.
