Black Sea Bass

If you're looking for some bottom fishing action, Nags Head offers excellent opportunities for black sea bass. These tasty fish are abundant around wrecks, reefs, and artificial structures offshore. The best time to target them is during the cooler months, from late fall through early spring, when they congregate in larger numbers. Using bottom fishing rigs with squid, clams, or cut bait is a proven tactic. Jigging with metal lures can also be effective, especially when the bite is hot. Diamond jigs and bucktails are popular choices. Keep an eye on your depth finder, as sea bass tend to hang close to structure. A local tip: The waters off the Outer Banks can get rough quickly, so always check the marine forecast before heading out, and be prepared for changing conditions.
