Brown Trout

While not as widely known as other Wisconsin destinations for brown trout, Bellevue offers some surprisingly good opportunities. The East River, though smaller, holds a population of brown trout that are stocked annually. These fish offer a great challenge in a more intimate setting. Spring and fall are the best times to target them, with cooler water temperatures triggering increased activity. During the warmer months, focus on early mornings or late evenings. Fly fishing with nymphs or small streamers can be effective, as can casting small spinners or spoons. A key local tip is to access the river from the various county parks along its course, offering easy access and parking. The brown trout in the East River tend to be on the smaller side, but their willingness to take a fly makes for an enjoyable experience.
