Brown Trout

While not as widely known as some other Wisconsin locales, Cleveland provides access to Lake Michigan tributaries that see runs of Brown Trout. These migratory fish enter the rivers and streams to spawn, providing exciting angling opportunities. The best time to target them is during the fall and spring runs. In the fall, focus on the streams closer to Lake Michigan, as the fish are moving upstream. In the spring, target the same areas as the fish are returning to the lake. Try drifting spawn sacs or casting spinners in the deeper pools. Access to these streams is often limited to public access points or requires landowner permission. Check local regulations regarding fishing seasons and bag limits. The Brown Trout in this area can be quite large, often exceeding 10 pounds, making for a memorable fishing experience. Be prepared for challenging conditions, as the water can be cold and swift.
