Brown Trout

While Eagle River is renowned for its multi-species fishing, dedicated anglers can find opportunities for Brown Trout in some of the area's cooler, spring-fed rivers and streams that feed into the larger lakes. These tributaries, though often smaller in size, offer a more intimate and challenging fishing experience. Spring and fall are generally the best times, when water temperatures are cooler and the trout are more active. Focus on areas with undercut banks, riffles, and deep pools. A stealthy approach is crucial, as these trout can be easily spooked. A local tip: Check with local fly shops for recommendations on specific streams and fly patterns that are currently working. Also, be aware that some sections of these streams may have special regulations, such as catch-and-release only, so be sure to check the Wisconsin DNR regulations. The Brown Trout in these smaller streams tend to be wild and wary, making them a rewarding catch for the patient and skilled angler. Consider using small nymphs or dry flies to entice these selective feeders.
