While Horicon isn't typically known as a prime brown trout destination, the Rock River does offer some opportunities for anglers willing to explore. Stocking efforts in specific sections of the Rock River, particularly upstream from Horicon, have created a limited but viable brown trout fishery. These stocked browns can be found in areas with deeper pools, rocky riffles, and overhanging vegetation. Spring and fall are generally the best times to target them, as water temperatures are more favorable. Consider using a combination of techniques, including drifting nymphs, casting small spinners, or even trying dry flies during insect hatches. Access can be a bit challenging in certain areas, so research public access points along the river beforehand. Be aware that the Rock River can experience fluctuating water levels, so check conditions before heading out. While not a guaranteed honey hole, dedicated anglers can find success targeting brown trout in the Rock River near Horicon.
